Ed's lathe is a later machine with the double variable-pulley drive and headstock tachometer. The crank on the front of the cabinet adjusts the speed and the large lever to the left of the headstock is the clutch.
Visible in the photo is the longer cross slide with t-slots for a rear tool post, which only seems to show up on later machines. The lathe also has the micrometer carriage stop, which rides on it's own shaft underneath the carriage feed shaft.
